Voter Fraud Leads to Reversed Result in California Local Government Election

After evidence of voter fraud, an election in perhaps America’s most liberal state has been reversed.

After the victorious candidate was indicted with voter fraud and bribery, a 2021 election for the Compton City Council was nullified.

Isaac Galvin, a member of the Compton City Council who looked to have won his position by a single vote, was arrested last year along with five others and charged with conspiracy to conduct election fraud.

After four of the votes in the election were found invalid because they were cast by people who did not live in the district, a judge ruled that Galvin will be replaced by his competitor, Andre Spicer.

According to the Los Angeles Times:

The race garnered national attention in August when Galvan was charged with election manipulation and bribery by the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office. Galvan allegedly conspired with primary opponent Jace Dawson to direct voters from outside the council district to vote for Galvan in the June runoff against Spicer, according to prosecutors. According to the criminal complaint, Galvan also tried to bribe an election officer with concert tickets. According to Dean Logan, the county’s chief elections official, the official immediately reported the effort.

Last summer, Dawson, Kimberly Chaouch, Toni Sanae Morris, Barry Kirk Reed, and Reginald Orlando Streeter were each charged with two counts of election fraud conspiracy. Court determined that Chaouch, Morris, Streeter, and a guy named Jordan Farr Jefferson all voted in the runoff between Spicer and Galvan despite not living in the Compton City Council’s second district when she ruled on Spicer’s election challenge on Friday.

According to the 10-page verdict, Chaouch, Morris, Streeter, and Jefferson all put Dawson’s Compton address as their home address when they registered to vote in the contest.

“As part of an investigation into marijuana licensing practices in Baldwin Park, federal officials served a search warrant at Galvan’s residence in November 2020.” According to the LA Times, “the search came months after a former Baldwin Park police officer signed a sworn statement alleging that he’d received complaints from three cannabis dispensary operators alleging questionable business practices, including paying as much as $250,000 cash in a brown paper bag to city officials.”
