Nancy Pelosi Banned From Receiving Holy Communion Due To Pro-Abortion Stance.

Nancy Pelosi, the House Speaker and a California Representative, received some news she should have expected.

According to Fox News, Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone of San Francisco announced on Friday that the House Speaker is barred from taking Holy Communion because of her pro-choice attitude on abortion.

Abortion is strictly prohibited in the Catholic church, although several Catholic Democrats, such as Pelosi and President Joe Biden, have advocated for abortion rights.

The Archbishop told Speaker Pelosi in a letter that she should not attempt to take Holy Communion and that if she does, priests will deny her.

“In its Decree on the Church in the Modern World, Gaudium et Spes, the Second Vatican Council reaffirmed the Church’s historic and constant teaching that “life must be guarded with the greatest care from the time of conception, while abortion and infanticide are heinous crimes.” Christians have traditionally defended the dignity of human life at all stages, particularly the most vulnerable, beginning with conception. Your Holiness “Like his predecessors, Pope Francis has been absolutely clear and emphatic in teaching on the sanctity of human life in the womb,” he wrote in the letter.

“This fundamental moral truth has implications for Catholics in their daily lives, particularly those entrusted with promoting and defending society’s public good.” Pope St. John Paul II was also a staunch supporter of the Church’s ongoing teaching, reminding us that “those who are actively involved in lawmaking bodies have a ‘grave and unambiguous obligation to reject’ any law that destroys human life.” It is unthinkable for them, as for every Catholic, to support or vote for such laws” (cf. Doctrinal Note on Some Issues Concerning Catholics’ Political Participation [November 24, 2002], n. 4, 1). After learning the Church’s doctrine, a Catholic legislator who supports procured abortion commits a plainly grievous sin that causes great scandal to others. As a result, global Church law states that such individuals “are not to be admitted to Holy Communion” (Code of Canon Law, can. 915),” according to the Archbishop.

“I am grateful to you for the time you have given me in the past to speak about these issues as I strive to follow this course.” Unfortunately, you have not responded to my several attempts to speak with you since you pledged to enshrine the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade ruling in federal law following the passage of Texas Senate Bill 8 last September.

That is why, on April 7, 2022, I wrote you a letter informing you that, if you do not publicly repudiate your advocacy for abortion ‘rights’ or refrain from referring to your Catholic faith in public and receiving Holy Communion, I will have no choice but to declare, in accordance with canon 915, that you will not be admitted to Holy Communion,” he said.

“Because you have not openly denounced your abortion attitude and continue to use your Catholic faith to explain your position and take Holy Communion, that moment has arrived.” As the Archbishop of San Francisco, I am responsible to be “concerned for all the Christian faithful entrusted to [my] care”.

“I am hereby notifying you that you are not to present yourself for Holy Communion, and if you do, you will not be permitted to Holy Communion,” he warned.
